How to Enjoy Basketball While Staying At Home

With sports activities suspended all over the world, you might be looking for ways to stay active and enjoy playing basketball despite the restriction. You can still have fun, create a basketball home edition skills activity with your housemates. Check these fun ways to play the game:

On the Floor Form Shooting

This drill will strengthen your shooting muscles and develop your shooting stroke. Do this by lying on your back and shoot the basketball up into the air, catch the ball, and repeat. The main emphasis of this is to get the ball to come out of your hand in good form and make you shoot in a nice form. This will help you focus on your hand, your arm, and the ball while laying down instead of focusing on footwork when you are on the court. 

Figure Eights

Improve your ball-handling skills with this figure-eight pattern. This is a dribbling drill that is done between your legs. Start by standing with your legs shoulder-width apart and slightly bend your knees. With a ball in your right hand pass it between your legs following a figure-eight motion to your left hand. Then with the ball in your left hand bring it around the outside of your left knee and pass it to your right hand through your legs.

Play Horse

In the game of basketball, horse is a great game for all generations. It has been a very popular game because it brings fun and at the same time a great way to enhance shooting skills.  This game may enhance eye and hand coordination skills at the same time. It only requires one hoop. Some sports experts from suggest having portable hoops so you can just have them installed in your home and play anytime you want. This can make you play basketball with your housemates in the comfort of your home. And when you decide not to play, these portable hoops can be kept aside. 

1-on-1 with Variations

You can do this with your housemates, or if you have kids at home, you can play this with them. This is the mini version of a regular basketball game, in which there are only two players involved. You can do this at home and utilize your portable hoops. The same rules apply so it is like having a real game only that you might be playing it in the garage or in your backyard.

Around the World

The game’s objective is to go around the world and make a series of shots around your half-court at home. You can start with a lay-up, followed by a free throw line shot and a free throw shot around the free-throw line area. Do this drill with the other player or players who are with you. The objective is to be the first player to complete all the shots around all these positions.

Playing basketball at home does not have to be full of sweat nor too competitive following a 5-on-5 regular game. It can be done alone, or with 2 or 3 people with you. This can be a better learning session that includes game techniques and skills.
