Auditions for Elf The Musical at Missoula Community Theatre

By MICHELLE NIGH

If you love spaghetti with maple syrup for breakfast and you think that “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is to sing loud for all to hear,” then auditioning for Elf the Musical will be even better than passing through the seven levels of the Candy Cane Forest! The Missoula Community Theatre will hold an open audition for Elf the Musical on Sunday, September 30 from 12:30-4:30 PM. Please use the Main Street entrance and go to the third floor.

Based on the 2003 film Elf starring Will Ferrell, Elf the Musical tells the delightful story of Buddy the Elf’s quest to find and have a relationship with his real father, Walter Hobbs. Buddy and Walter are on completely opposite ends of Christmas spirit spectrum. But Buddy’s infectious innocence and enthusiasm eventually melt the hearts of everyone he meets, including his dad.

The audition is open to performers age 12 and up. Director Joseph Martinez will audition adults (age 16 and up) from 12:30-2:30 PM. Children aged 12-15 will audition from 3:00-4:30 PM.  Martinez plans to cast approximately 15 women, 15 men, and 10 children. Strong singers and movers are encouraged to audition. Adults with rollerblading skills are also desired. Some of the roles to be cast include Buddy the Elf; his love interest Jovie; Buddy’s New York family: Walter, Emily, and son Michael; and Buddy’s North Pole family, including Santa and the elves.

No advance preparation is required to audition. Call-backs will take place the same evening.  Martinez expects that rehearsals will be weeknights from 7-10:30 PM. Those auditioning should note that Elf the Musical will have three weeks of performances, from Nov. 29-Dec. 16.
