Parks and Rec and Missoula Youth Rugby Celebrate Free Olympic Day Event

Event one of 2,000+ nationwide events celebrating the birth of the modern Olympic Games

The spirit of the Olympic Movement will roll into Missoula this Saturday, as Parks and Recreation and Missoula Youth Rugby host a free family festival at Playfair Park.

Kids and families are invited to a free Olympic Day celebration on Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Playfair Park. Kids can enjoy a wide variety of Olympic-themed games and activities, like fencing, rugby, cycling, taekwondo and more. The first 300 kids will receive an Olympic goodie bag and all participants will have a chance to win exciting raffle prizes.

Special guests include U.S. Paralympic Gold Medalist in cycling Megan Fisher, 1972 Olympics luge racer Bob Rock, and Sibahn Doxey, Miss Montana USA 2016.

Missoula Parks and Recreation“We are excited to take part in Olympic Day and inspire kids in the Missoula community,” said Nikki Perez, events specialist with Missoula Parks and Recreation. “Parks and Recreation and Missoula Youth Rugby are proud to support the Olympic Movement and encourage children to lead healthy, active lives.”

The June 18 celebration is one of more than 2,000 events taking place nationwide during the month of June. The events, designed to engage youth and promote the ideals of the Olympic movement, feature athlete appearances, family-friendly activities and interactive learning experiences.

Around the world, more than 160 countries take part in the annual celebration. Olympic Day, created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games, focuses on the Olympic values and ideals such as fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship.
