The Missoula Community Theatre Presents “The Sound of Music”

The Missoula Community Theatre is proud to bring one of the most well-known and much-beloved musicals to the stage in December.  The Sound of Music is scheduled for three weeks of performances, beginning with Premiere Night* on Thursday, December 3rd and the general public opening on Friday, December 4th.  The show runs Dec 3-6, 9-13 and 16-20.

Michael McGill, MCT’s Executive Director, has double-duty as the director of the production and also as music director.  His cast includes more than 60 local volunteer actors filling the roles of “Maria” (Taylor Caprara), “Captain Von Trapp” (Andrew Rossiter), “Mother Abbess” (Maria Gillespie), Nuns, Nazis, local characters and a host of Von Trapp children!  In September, more than seventy talented children auditioned.  The Von Trapp children, with the exception of “Liesl” (Kelly Stagner) were double-cast, and they will alternate performances throughout the run.  Heather Adams (Downtown Dance Collective) is the choreographer, ready to a bring a fresh look to an iconic show.

“It takes twice the time to rehearse with two casts of Von Trapp kids, but it’s so very satisfying,” McGill stated.  “The kids, as well as the adults in the cast, are a joy to work with.  There are a number of new people in this show, too, which is great.  Like so many of us, they grew up with this family-friendly show and have such good feelings about The Sound of Music.  It really is ‘one of their favorite things’.”

The Sound of Music runs December 3-6, 9-13 and 16-20 at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts. *Premiere Night comes with a special reception.  Tickets are available 24/7 at MCTinc.org, by phone at 406-728-7529 or at the Box Office, from 9AM-6PM Monday-Friday.  The show’s Premiere sponsor is Delta Air Lines, along with local sponsors Stockman Bank, PayneWest Insurance and University Motors.

Santa will be visiting MCT’s Santa Land one hour before the show, ready to meet kids (of all ages!) on Dec 3 and 4 (evening shows), and Dec 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20 (matinees only). MCT is once again participating in Toys for Tots, so new, unwrapped toys may be dropped off for a deserving child until Wednesday, December 23rd.  Call 728-7529 for more details!
