MCT’s Performing Arts Camp 2015: Booking it on Broadway–A Novel Review

The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) Performing Arts Camp (PAC) kicks off on August 1st  with more than 170 teenagers from around the US and Canada checking in at the two camps on Flathead Lake.  These talented, high-energy performers spend 1 ½ weeks in auditions, rehearsals, swimming, dance lessons, vocal training, games, workshops and more rehearsals—all this before returning to Missoula for a weekend of spirited performances Thursday, August 13th, through Saturday, August 15th, at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts.

This year’s production is Booking it on Broadway—A Novel Review.  As with most PAC shows, this is a revue of material from stage and screen that have one thing in common…they all began as a book!  MCT’s unique ability to weave together material that you wouldn’t see on the same stage together is nothing short of amazing—and yet, there’s still a throughline that wraps it all up in an entertaining evening of fun.

Led by Michael McGill, MCT’s Executive Director, and Joseph Martinez, MCT’s Artistic Director, PAC involves a full staff of counselors, vocal coaches, choreographers, acting instructors, nurses, lifeguards, and cooks, all working together to ensure an artistically-challenging, enjoyable, creative experience for the teens.  As for the performances, MCT tries to keep a lid on the specifics, so the audience enjoys some surprises, but there are rumors that the campers will meet up with a boy who never wants to grow up, a River that is Big enough for Mark Twain’s imagination, a tortured soul living in a cathedral in Paris, and even a couple of witches who are the unlikeliest of friends.

These tales and more may inspire younger readers to pick up a new book, and older readers to dust off the bookshelf and revisit some classics.  But first, MCT invites the public to the 2015 PAC show, Booking it on Broadway—A Novel Review!
