Missoula City Crews Juggle Leaves and Snow

Snow and ice have arrived during the second week of the City of Missoula’s fall leaf collection program, and crews are busy plowing snow and deicing streets while sticking as close as they can to the leaf pickup schedule.

Street Superintendent Brian Hensel called out a crew of five staff members shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday, and they were on the job at 1 a.m. Streets crews will continue to work on winter-related duties as needed.

Last week, most residents in Area 1on the leaf collection map saw leaf pickup crews. Area 1 is not complete because of the large volume of leaves fallen and the loss of a day for the Election Day holiday. Parts of the Rattlesnake, Canyon Creek, Grant Creek, Easy Street and west of Reserve

Street neighborhoods have not yet had leaf pickup. Crews will return to Area 1 at the same time they start Area 2 pickup, which is scheduled for this week.

The City Street Division employees who operate the fall leaf collection program are the same employees who plow and deice streets. All of us at the City thank the public for their patience as we work to juggle these two programs at once.
