Griz Conclude 3-Game Homestand Versus Bulldogs Dec 20

THE GAME: The University of Montana Grizzlies (3-4) conclude a three-game home-stand, hosting the UM-Western Bulldogs (6-4) on Friday, Dec. 20, with tip-off at 7:00 p.m. in UM’s Dahlberg Arena (7,322).

RADIO: Mick Holien, the long-time “Voice of the Grizzlies” calls the play-by-play, while Greg Sundberg serves as color commentator.  Follow the action on UM’s flagship station, KGVO 1290 AM/ & 101.5 FM.  (MBB Radio Network listed on add 4 of the weekly release).

GRIZ LAST TWO GAMES: At Montana 73, Saint Martin’s 57: Junior guard Jordan Gregory scored a team-high 16 points and three of his teammates scored in double figures to pace the Griz.  Also in double-figures for Montana were junior forward Mike Weisner, senior guard/forward Kareem Jamar, and junior guard Keron DeShields, who scored 13 points each.  The Grizzlies were solid from the line, making 31-of-39 free throws for (79.5%).

At Montana 69, Idaho 58: UM had five players score in double figures and made several crucial free throws late in the game for the win. Weisner nailed a three-point shot with 5:10 left to play, Montana took a 55-52 lead,  and led the rest of the way.  True freshman guard Mario Dunn made 7-of-8 free throw attempts in the final minutes of the game en route to scoring a career-high 11 points.  Double-digit scorers for the Griz were Jamar (16 points), Gregory (12), Weisner (11), Dunn (11), and DeShields (10).  Jamar had 10 rebounds for his second double-double this season and the ninth in his career.

COACH TINKLE THIRD IN CAREER WINS: Griz head coach Wayne Tinkle’s 144 career wins rank him third in school history.  Coach Tinkle needs just eight more wins to move up to second on the career wins list and pass Mike Montgomery (151, 1979-96).

JAMAR 12TH (TIE) IN SCORING: Jamar has 1,235 career points, which moves him up to a tie for 12th in school history with Lou Rocheleau (1,235, 1946-49).

SERIES: Montana leads 6-3.  Last meeting (11/17/08): at Montana 75, UM-Western 67. Ryan Staudacher scored 21 points to lead the Griz.  Terry Hauser led the Bulldogs with 15 points.  UM led 34-31 at halftime.
