Jordan Johnson named Big Sky’s Offensive Player of the Week

The Big Sky Conference has selected its ROOT SPORTS football Players of the Week for games played on Saturday, Sept. 14, and University of Montana quarterback Jordan Johnson was named the Offensive Player of the Week.

Joining Johnson were Northern Arizona safety Lucky Dozier as the Defensive Player of the Week, while Idaho State kicker Brendon Garcia was tabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Johnson, a 6–1, 200-pound junior from Eugene, Ore., set a Big Sky Conference single-game pass efficiency record in Montana’s 55-17 non-conference win at North Dakota. Johnson completed 15-of-19 passes for a career-high 354 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions for an efficiency rating of 322.3.

Junior quarterback, Jordan Johnson was named Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Johnson guided the Grizzlies to touchdowns on all eight drives he played. He threw touchdown passes of 70, 52, 35, 6, and 51 yards.   He also rushed for 21 yards to finish with 375 yards of total offense. Montana finished with 609 yards of offense.  This is Johnson’s second player of the week award.

Dozier, a 5-8, 185-pound senior from Sacramento, Calif., returned an interception 78 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of NAU’s 21-10 non-conference victory over UC Davis.

Montana’s nominee for defense “POW” was junior defensive end Zack Wagenmann, who had six tackles, including three stops for losses, along with two sacks.

Garcia, a 5-11, 150-pound senior from Danville, Calif., kicked field goals of 30, 47 and 50 yards in ISU’s 29-3 victory over Western State.

ROOT SPORTS, the official television partner of the Big Sky Conference, will air 10 Big Sky Conference games in 2013. The first ROOT SPORTS game is Thursday, Sept. 26, when co-defending conference champion Cal Poly takes on Portland State. On Saturday, Sept. 28, Northern Arizona plays host to Montana on ROOT SPORTS.
