Elite Runners to Participate in the Missoula Mile on Sept. 8

The region’s fastest runners will step to the starting line of Run Wild Missoula’s Missoula Mile on Sunday, September 8 during Sunday Streets Missoula. The 1-mile road race—the only one of its kind in Missoula—will start at 9 a.m. with the elite mile (with qualifying times of sub 6:00 for women and 5:30 for men) followed by an open mile for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. The event also offers a half-mile run for kids and a 1-mile race for first responders.

The Missoula Mile is a fundraiser for prostate cancer treatment and awareness with all proceeds going to Partnership Health Center.

The runners competing along with their own personal records are below.

RUN_WILD

Cash prizes will go to the top male and female finishers ($300 for first, $200 for second and $100 for third places).

 

RWMThe one-mile races will start in front of the Runners Edge, 304 North Higgins Avenue. Runners will follow Higgins Avenue, go across the Higgins Avenue bridge, will turn around near the Missoulian, and run north on Higgins Avenue to finish in front of the Runners Edge.

 

The schedule is as follows:
9 a.m.- Elite Race for men and women (sub 5:30 minute mile for men and sub 6 minute mile for women) 9:15 a.m.- Open Run/Walk for men and women 9:45 a.m.- Kids and families half mile (free ice cream from Big Dipper at the finish) 10 a.m.- First Responders mile
The first 100 people to register are guaranteed hats. Hamburgers will also be available at the finish with a suggested donation of $5. The registration fee is $25 for the 1-mile race and $5 for kids half-mile race. Register online at www.runwildmissoula.org through 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 7 or on race day, September 8, from 7 – 9 a.m. in front of the Runners Edge.
Participants can raise funds for prostate cancer treatment and awareness by creating their own fundraising campaign at http://grouprev.com/missoulamile2013. The top fundraiser will get a pair of shoes, thanks to the Runners Edge.
