The Easy and Frugal Way to Clean Your Shower Floor

By ERIN TURNER

I may be the only one who has this problem but I struggle keeping the floor of the shower clean.  We have fiberglass showers with a textured bottom and somehow the dirt gets trapped.  I have scrubbed with big scrub brushes and little scrub brushes, I have sprayed all my homemade cleaners but nothing gets the floor shiny and new…well, I’d even settle for semi-clean.

The other day I was in desperation mode.  We had company coming and I didn’t want them to think I was a wash-out housekeeper.  So, in pure and absolute desperation I resorted to using the weirdest thing…something I would have never thought about in normal circumstances!  Toilet bowl cleaner!

How to Clean a shower floorIt worked so beautifully!  I couldn’t believe my eyes!  It was a miracle!  And not only did my shower floor look semi-clean, it looked brand-spanking new!  The dirt had loosened and completely disappeared even in the smallest of crevices in that textured floor.

The amazing thing about this method was that I didn’t do a thing….I didn’t scrub or have to apply ANY elbow grease.  Here is how I did it:

-Squirt a small amount (the size of a small pancake) onto the floor of the shower

-With an old rag or paper towel rub the cleaner all over the floor.  Make sure all areas are covered evenly.  (Use gloves to make sure you don’t get any on your hands).

-Wash your hands and walk away.

-Come back a few hours later and run hot water on your shower floor to rinse.

-Stand back and marvel at the magic show that just occurred in your shower!

DIY idea for cleaning a shower floorIt truly is that easy and simple!  And it is a frugal solution to fighting tough grime and dirt in your shower.  You can pick up a bottle of toilet bowl cleaner at the Dollar Store for…you guessed it, a dollar!  This should get you multiple cleanings, so we are talking about a few cents each time you clean your shower!

With three boys who love going barefoot, even out in the fields while they are weeding, I needed to find a super powerful way to combat the dirt that accumulates on the textured surface of our fiberglass shower.  A little toilet bowl cleaner was a frugal and effective solution!
