Kareem Jamar Named Big Sky Player of the Week

OGDEN,Utah (March 11, 2013)-Montana’s Kareem Jamar has been selected as the final Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week of the 2012-13 season.

The 6-foot-5, junior guard/forward from Venice, Calif., led Montana to three wins as the Grizzlies clinched their second straight regular-season conference title. Jamar averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 assists and 3.7 rebounds per games. He shot .581 percent from the field and .813 from the free-throw line.

Jamar poured in 26 points with four rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot last Monday in an 86-74 overtime road win over Southern Utah. Scored 12 points with four rebounds, four assists and a steal on Thursday in a 63-52 win over Sacramento State. On Saturday in a 63-50 win over Northern Arizona, Jamar netted 12 points with five assists, three rebounds and a steal.

Jamar guided a Montana team that was without senior Mathias Ward for all three games, and without All-Conference guard Will Cherry for two of the three games. Montana finished 19-1 in conference, the most league victories in a single season.

Montana will take the No. 1 seed into this week’s Big Sky Championship, which begins on Thursday in Missoula.

This is Jamar’s third Player of the Week honor this season.
