Parks and Recreation has a new home for your favorite sports and fitness programs at the Sports and Wellness Center, located at 1515 Fairview, inside City Life Community Center. Best of all, NO membership is required; the Sports and Wellness Center offers affordable and healthy play for the whole family.

YOUTH AND PRESCHOOL FUN AT THE SPORTS AND WELLNESS CENTER 

  • Jr. Playmakers Basketball for 4th through 6th graders – Register by Feb. 8

We don’t keep score but we have a ton of fun in these non-competitive games with an emphasis on fun and fair play. League runs Feb. 17 – Mar. 23. Registration fee is $50, or $40 with a resident discount card.  Youth recreation grants are available. Registration form.

  • 10 & Under Tennis – Starts Feb. 5, register through Feb. 7

10-&-Under Tennis quickly gets kids into the game by using specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to their age and size. Lessons for kids ages 5 to 10 meet Tuesdays and Thursdays afternoons, February  5 through 28, at the Sports and Wellness Center, 1515 Fairview.  The registration fee is $50, or $40 with a resident discount card.  The next session meets March 5-28.   • Super Sports Pre-School Sports Skills – Begins Feb. 19

Skilled instructors lead games and activities to introduce the fundamentals of catching, kicking, throwing, and body control to preschool boys and girls ages 3 to 5. Kids use soft Koosh and Nerf equipment to build their confidence and have lots of fun.  Parent participation is encouraged! Meets Tuesday or Friday mornings at the Sports & Wellness Center, 1515 Fairview. 6-week session begins February 19. 6-week session is $25, or $20 with a resident discount card. Complete Schedule

  • Preschool Play Time – Every Thursday

Have a ball with your preschooler at our open gym! Kids can play and be creative with our safe, indoor playground equipment and fun activities. Recreation staff will be on hand to promote a safe play environment. No drop-offs please; parent participation is encouraged!  Play Time meets Thursdays, from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and is for kids ages 3 to 5.  Drop-in fee is $5 per child, or save 20 percent with a 10-session punch card for $40.

  • Youth Open Gym – Weekdays After School

Kids: grab your pals and get your game on at the Sports & Wellness Center!  No pre-registration needed. $3 per youth (17 and under.) Save 20% with a 10-session punch card for $24. Times and sports may vary and are subject to change—always check the Open Gym schedule. Open Play (sport of kids’ choice): Tuesdays, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Open Basketball: Mondays and Thursdays, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

LEARN TO PLAY PICKLEBALL CLINICS FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS — FEB 23 AND MARCH 9 

Saturdays; February 23, and March 9, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Learn the rules, scoring, and strategy of pickleball and practice with fellow beginners. We supply the nets, paddles, and balls. All ages and abilities welcome! $5 or one punch from your Open Gym card.  Don’t miss Pickleball Open Gym, daily except on Fridays.  Pickleball schedule…and what the heck IS pickleball, anyway?

  • Adult Open Gym: Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Pickleball – Weekdays

  • Sports and Wellness Center Adult Fitness Classes  – Weekdays Beginning Feb. 18

6-week sessions begin the week of February 18, registration fee is $36 for a 6-week session. Register at Currents Aquatics Center, phone 721-PARK or register at the Sports and Wellness Center on the first day of class.

  • Basic Flow Yoga – All Levels

Start your day with gentle, flowing movement!  Class features modifications for beginning to advanced yoga enthusiasts. You’ll learn breathing techniques for deepening meditation, focus and concentration. Tuesdays or Thursdays, 7:30 – 8:30 a.m., beginning Feb. 19.  6-week session, $36.

  • Yoga for Healthy Aging

For the active adult looking to stay fit. Using a gentle vinyasa practice, we’ll create and maintain a regular routine of activity to improve energy levels, bone density, and overall health.  Mondays or Wednesdays, 2 p.m., beginning Feb. 18. 6-week session, $36.

  • Introduction to Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa yoga connects breath and movement in a way that moves the body most efficiently for maximized health and vitality. The class will move through a series of postures (asana) beginning with simple warming up exercises, building up to balancing and strengthening, then cooling down and resting at the end. Also included will be breathing exercises (pranayama), some guided meditation, and discussion of the philosophy of yoga as a whole. Fridays, 2 – 3 p.m., beginning Feb. 22. 6-week session, $36.

  • Zumba Spice

This high-intensity movement class fuses dance from various styles including Hip-Hop, Brazilian Baile Funk, and African Tribal to create a fun and energizing workout. Between the heart-pounding cardio, easy dance moves and a cool-down with deep stretching you’ll be in shape in no time and feel great! Tuesdays or Thursdays, 5:45 – 6:45 p.m., beginning Feb. 19. 6-week session, $36.

  • Spring Shape-Up Strength & Conditioning

Spring is on the way! Get ready for the great outdoors and spring sports with core conditioning, cardio strength training, hand-eye coordination and much more. Our multi-dimensional approach to fitness will help you shape up and feel great outside this spring. For adults of all abilities. Mondays, 5:45 – 6:45 p.m., beginning Feb. 18; or Fridays, 7:30 -8:30 a.m., beginning Feb. 22. 6-week session, $36.
