Missoula County is headquartered at the Missoula County Courthouse, and overseen by three elected county commissioners. The county encompasses the outlying areas of Lolo and Florence in the Bitterroot Valley; Frenchtown, Huson, and Alberton to the west; Turah and Clinton to the east; and most of the way north up the Seeley-Swan Valley.

The County is working toward the development of a new regional safety and training center, and eventual expansion of the court systems. It is also overseeing expansion of county land near the airport through the creation and management of the Missoula Development Park and Authority.
