Missoula Children’s Theatre

Long a Missoula staple, the MCT is now far more than a local gem.

For nearly 40 years, the Missoula Children’s Theatre and MCT Community Theatre have delighted locals and visitors alike with outstanding full scale productions and family entertainment.

Beyond its notable productions, though, is its well deserved notoriety as an extensive outreach program. Although the MCT still is very much at home in Missoula,  the MCT International Tour now reaches far beyond its western Montana roots as it travels across the U.S. and abroad each year. In doing so, the Missoula Children’s Theatre introduces children with little or no performing experience, the chance to star on stage.

MCT’s mobile productions earned the company broad recognition when it was featured in a documentary titled The Little Red Truck. Each year the MCT’s trademark red trucks carry ready-made costumes, sets and props into more than 1,100 communities, giving tens of thousands of children the chance to perform in a live theatre production.

Each MCT production entails a series of rehearsals that culminate in a live stage production. The complete production process – from auditions to live performance – takes place in just six days. And after the curtain falls, the directors and trucks are off to the next town to engage another group of aspiring performers.
