Our Mission: Watson Children’s Shelter is dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing environment for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, abandonment or family crisis

Each year, more than 150 kids — infant to age 14 — are brought to Watson Children’s Shelter. These children have been abused, neglected, abandoned or their family is in crisis. Most children are brought to the shelter by social workers or the police.

On average, each child stays at the shelter for 50 days, though some children need to stay longer until their family crisis is resolved or longer term supportive care can be arranged.  We welcome children 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Our staff is highly trained and experienced, with degrees in education, child development, counseling and child psychology.  On average, our staff members have been working with our kids for 8 to 10 years.

Our two shelters are designed to provide a safe, comfortable and welcoming stay for the children. Some of the children have never had a bedroom, never eaten a true family meal, never had toys and art supplies. They often arrive with just the clothes on their backs.  Here, they have their own bed, a place for their belongings, rooms for play, crafts, dining and learning.  We provide them with clothing, nourishing meals and everything to experience and enjoy childhood.

Our funding comes from grants, special events, private donations and Child and Family Services through a contract to provide care.  Currently, about 40% of our operating funds and supplies are provided through private donations. Donate Now.
