What’s Happening at the Top Hat: Sept. 4-9

Events: September 4 – 9, 2015

Friday, September 4. Family Friendly Friday – Andrea Harsell. Every Friday from 6PM to 8PM, the Top Hat presents Family Friendly Friday – a time where parents, and their kids, can socialize, listen to music, eat great food and have fun. Parents can enjoy the company of friends or dance with their kids without worry about their kids making too much noise.  This is a time for the whole family, in which the entire family can have a fun, music-filled time. Dining service available.

Friday, September 4. Elephant Revival & the Rustics. This Nederland, Colo., quintet are, needless to say, quite a sound to be experienced — especially when they fall into the pocket of a groove containing elements of gypsy, Celtic, Americana, and folk. Brought together by a unified sense of purpose — the spirit of five souls working as one, in harmony, creating sounds they could never produce alone.

Saturday, September 5. Ted Ness & the Rusty Nails. Ted Ness & the Rusty Nails has been performing their own special blend of Montana-grass since 2011. Known for their fiery instrumentals and warm vocal harmonies, Ted Ness distills a sound as intoxicating and exhilarating as the great Rocky Mountains. Consisting of 4 folks, 40 fingers, and 22 strings, they have been firein’ up whiskey-soaked hootenannies and shindiggers all over the Pacific Northwest.

Monday, September 7.  Raising the Dead (Live Recorded Shows of the Grateful Dead).  Every Monday at 5:00 PM, the Top Hat will host Missoula Deadheads for two hours of live Dead music from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
The two hours will be curated by local Dead experts. FREE SHOW, all ages.

Monday, September 7. The White Buffalo & Dodgy Mountain Men Trio. Working under the apt nameplate The White Buffalo, singer/songwriter Jake Smith has resolutely charted his own single-minded course for more than a decade. An imposing figure with a voice to match, a resonant, roughhewn baritone, Smith writes about rebels, outsiders and troubled souls battling their way through the obstacles life throws in their paths, telling timeless tales generally set against recognizably contemporary backdrops.

Tuesday, September 8. Missoula Symphony Cabaret Series – Quartetto Gelato. For nearly two decades, this dazzling ensemble has enchanted audiences and critics worldwide with their exotic blend of musical virtuosity, artistic passion and humor. Classical in training – eclectic by design – Quartetto Gelato (QG) not only thrills its audiences with its multi-instrument mastery, but also offers the bonus of a brilliant operatic tenor.

Wednesday, September 9. Sharin’ in the Groove (Live Recorded Shows of Phish).  Every Wednesday at 4:30 PM, the Top Hat will host a Phish themed happy hour, complete with show audio, video and more!  FREE SHOW, all ages.

Wednesday, September 9. Jazz Night – Trio Noir. The Top Hat Lounge hosts various local and regional Jazz Artists to play our Jazz Night on Wednesdays.  Music starts at 7PM and last until approximately 9PM.  We host everything from traditional, to modern, to Gypsy Jazz.  Join us for dinner or drinks while listening to some great music. Free and open to all ages.

Thursday, September 10. Tony Furtado Album Release Party with Tom Catmull. Tony has recorded and produced almost a dozen CDs for various labels such as Dualtone, What Are Records and Funzalo Records. Tony enthusiastically describes his newest CD, The Bell, as “the most personal of my career.” Tony is an evocative and soulful singer, a wide-ranging songwriter and a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist adept on banjo, cello-banjo, slide guitar and baritone ukulele who mixes and matches sounds and styles with the flair of a master chef.
