An Iraq vet returns to the U.S. with the true opposite of a hero’s welcome: no particular welcome at all. Battle-scarred inside and out, she stalls her reunion with her family in favor of squatting in the desert with strangers. This darkly funny and ultimately uplifting story hinges on the kindness and acceptance all returning soldiers may crave or perhaps deny themselves–but deserve nonetheless.
