Big Sky Suspends NAU Head Coach for Postgame Incident Against Montana

Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton has announced that Northern Arizona men’s basketball coach Jack Murphy will be suspended for his team’s next postseason contest.

Murphy is being suspended for his involvement in a postgame incident following Montana’s 61-59 semifinal win over Northern Arizona on Friday night in Missoula, Mont.

“Again, I want to first commend the student-athletes from both teams,’’ Fullerton said. “All of the student-athletes did a tremendous job of diffusing instead of escalating a tense situation. It’s clear from the video that Coach Murphy instigated the incident. We expect more from our coaches when it comes to sportsmanship. This is unacceptable behavior for any coach in America, especially in the Big Sky.’’

Murphy will serve his suspension this season if the Lumberjacks accept an invitation to a national postseason tournament. If not, it will be served when the Lumberjacks make their next appearance in the Big Sky men’s basketball Championship.
