The University of Montana’s Derek Crittenden has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Division 1 first team, as selected by the College Sports Information Director’s of America (Co-SIDA) recently.

Recipients must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and are given the award “in recognition of your accomplishments as a college scholar-athlete who excels in both academics and athletics.”

A sophomore from Whitefish, Crittenden maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA and is a chemistry major, with hopes to attend medical school in the future.  Last season he received the President’s Award in football (player with the highest GPA).

A 6-3, 240-pound defensive end, Crittenden played in all 13 games for the 10-3 Grizzlies this past season.  He had a 4.0 GPA at Whitefish High School, and was a member of the National Honor Society and served as class valedictorian.

In 2013, he was eighth (tie) on the team with 41 total tackles.  He has played in 24 games in a row.
