MDA Seeks Floats for 11th Annual Parade of Lights

The Missoula Downtown Association (MDA) invites participants for the 11th Annual Parade of Lights, brought to you by Liquid Planet and Datsopoulos, MacDonald and Lind. The Parade takes place in Downtown Missoula on Saturday, December 7 at 6pm. Applications for parade floats are being accepted at the MDA office now through Friday, November 22.

Businesses and organizations are encouraged to register a float, as it is a great opportunity to market their brand in front of thousands of parade spectators. The creation of a float is also a great team-building project for employees, volunteers, friends and family. Parade of Lights provides an opportunity for Missoulians to share in community spirit and civic pride during the holiday season.

The Parade route begins in front of the Missoulian on 4th Street and runs down Higgins Avenue, ending on East Alder Street. Parade entry costs $25 and line-up positions are first come, first serve the evening of the parade.

2013-11-08_1010There are five award categories and entrants will be judged on overall appearance and impression, originality and creativity, use of lights, and enthusiasm. Award categories include Best Civic/Non-Profit Entry, Best Commercial Entry, Best Religious Entry, Best High School/Collegiate Entry, and Best K-8 Entry. Winners of these categories will receive an engraved plaque and will be promoted through the MDA newsletter and local media publications.

Following the parade there will be food vendors, cocoa and cookies, a bonfire, carols by the Christian Life Center Choir, and the Lighting of the Tree. The Parade of Lights is part of a series of all-day events including photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, holiday art and craft projects, the Jingle Bell Run, holiday movies, horse-drawn carriage rides, and more.

This event brings thousands of people to Downtown Missoula to share in holiday cheer and tradition. For more information, visit the Missoula Downtown Association office at 218 East Main St., Ste. C, or call406.543.4238.
