Lady Griz Head Coach Robin Selvig is now one of six active Division I women’s basketball coaches to achieve 800 wins after Montana downed the Portland Pilots 68-61 Monday evening.

Selvig joins an echelon of elite coaches from schools like Rutgers, Stanford and North Carolina.  There are only two Division I men’s coaches with the honor.

The Lady Griz clawed their way past a tough Portland defense that matched them rebound for rebound and forced 11 total turnovers.  Montana only shot 33 percent from the field, and the scoreboard didn’t go over 10 points until midway through the first half.

Four Pilots scored in double digits, led by Jasmine Wooten’s 20 points and six rebounds.  Alexis Byrd, Kari Luttinen and Cassandra Brown combined for 33 total points and 10 rebounds.

Kellie Cole and Torry Hill both led Montana with 16 points each, and combined for 12 rebounds and four assists.  Player of the Game Alycia Sims was the third Grizzly to score in double digits, tallying 13 total points and eight rebounds.  As a unit, Montana shot almost 94 percent from the free throw line, converting 20 of 23 chances.

The Lady Griz will be out of town for Thanksgiving on a three-day road trip that starts in Denver on Nov. 27 and then moves to sunny Los Angeles for the Loyola Marymount Tournament.  After taking on North Dakota State and Loyola Marymount on Nov. 29 and 30, they return to Missoula for the 33rd Annual Lady Griz Classic on Dec. 6.
