October Savings

By ERIN TURNER

If you have been couponing or shopping frugally for a while, then you know that sales are cyclical and each month you’ll discover deep savings on certain items.  In order to get the deepest savings, you’ll want to check out what items are on the seasonal sale list and then try and match it up with coupons.

October has a long list of “celebrations” which for a shopper is a good thing.  It means items related to the “celebration” will be on sale and this is when you will need to stock up on them.   So, check the list then check the weekly sales flyers and your coupon inserts for rock bottom prices!

Here is a list of the various “National Celebrations”:

  • Columbus Day

    Fall

    It’s Fall Ya’ll!

  • Fire Prevention Week
  • National Apple Month
  • National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
  • National Cookie Month
  • National Pizza Month
  • National Pretzel Month
  • National Seafood Month
  •  National Animal Safety and Protection Month

October is a month still full of fresh produce and it would be a wise thing to stock up on this produce while it is cheaper.  Freezing or canning this produce would save you even more money come this winter!  Here is a list of produce which you should find on sale this month:

Fall Savings

Now is the time to stock up on holiday baking items.

With the holidays on the horizon, you will also find deep savings on baking items throughout the next month.  This is the time to stock up for your holiday baking needs.  Things like flour, sugar, canned pumpkin, extracts, nuts, chocolate chips, evaporated milk, brown sugar, etc. will all be priced for stocking up.

This month also finds itself sandwiched between “Back-to-School” and Black Friday sales.  So, retailers take this month to clear out their summer merchandise before gearing up for Christmas.  What this means for us as consumers is…stock up NOW on items for next summer.  Find patio furniture, clothing, home decor and other summer items up to 90% off right now!  Whose gonna complain about that?

Finally, look for great deals on Halloween and Fall decorations.  As the fall season is drawing to end this month for retailers, they will be offering substantial savings on all fall items, Halloween costumes, décor and candy.

Be sure to take advantage of the great deals during this seasonal cycle of sales.  October holds lot of spooky tricks but for the frugal shopper it also is burgeoning with loads of treats…all at rock bottom prices!
