Weekend Fun with Missoula Parks and Recreation

Join Missoula Parks and Recreation this weekend for a Kids’ Fishing Derby, Splash Montana Water Volleyball league and Adult Night, Open Ropes Course and Skateboard Mentors at MOBASH Skatepark. Open Ropes Course in McCormick Park – Fridays through August 23

Great for first-timers and experienced climbers. Helmets, harnesses, ropes, and belayers provided. Our instructors can help you with basic climbing techniques. No pre-registration, register on-site at class time. Fridays through August 23, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., $7, ages 8 and up.

Kids’ Fishing Derby at Silver’s Lagoon – Saturday, June 22

Silver’s Lagoon in McCormick Park is stocked with big fish just waiting to be caught! Kids aged 14 and under, can win prizes for the biggest fish, catching the most fish and more. Bring your own fishing gear or use ours. Fishing derbies meet on June 22 and July 20, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The entry fee is $1 and no pre-registration is necessary.

Mobash Skateboard Mentors – Saturdays through August 10

Drop in at Mobash on Saturday mornings, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., for skateboard instruction and safety tips. Gear provided. All ages, a parent or legal guardian must be available to sign waiver. Free.

Play like a kid at Splash Montana! Ages 18+ only, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sundays, June 23, July 7, July 21 and August 11. Regular admission fees.

Splash Montana Water Volleyball League – Deadline Sunday June 23

Water volleyball at Splash is pure recreation—no experience required! Rally scoring and the shallow water make games fly by. Six-player co-rec teams square off in 3-ft. water, so little actual swimming ability is required. League begins June 25, games are played Tuesdays, 8-9:30 p.m. $80 per team. Register at Currents Aquatics Center by 6 p.m., Sunday, June 23.

Splash Montana and Currents Aquatics Center – Open Daily

Join us for swim lessons, open swim, swim team, aquatics fitness, lap swim and so much more! Splash Montana is open 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, weather permitting. Currents Aquatics Center is open daily in McCormick Park. Kids In Action Youth Day Camps – June 24-28

One-week camps for children ages 6 to 12. The week of June 24-28 features ECO camp, Wild-West Camp and All-Star Sports Camp. Full day camps meet 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; fee is $125, or $100 with resident discount card. Half-day camps meet from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; fee is $50, or $40 with resident discount card. One-week sessions continue through August 23.

Summer Tennis Camps – Begins June 24

Learn tennis fundamentals in a fun, low-key setting. Regardless of skill level, you’ll improve your stroke and game strategy while having a great time! The next two-week session begins June 24, times vary – morning or evening for youth, evening for adults. Registration fee is $40 ($32 with CityCard resident discount) for youth and adult lessons and $20 per session for youth evening lessons. Additional sessions begin July 15 and August 5.

Adventure Fly Fishing Camp – June 24-27

Learn about fly-fishing knots, aquatic insects and the art of fly-casting and fly-tying. Meets at Silver’s Lagoon in McCormick Park, and on Friday we’ll head out to the river for some wade fishing! Gear and transportation is provided. Meets 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., registration fee is $87, or $70 with CityCard resident discount, for ages 10-14.

GO Camp – Girls Outdoors – June 24-28

Learn hiking and outdoor skills with Girl Scouts of Montana. GO Camp includes explorations in water science, natural history, team-building and life-long fitness—plus a fun service-learning project. Meets June 24-28, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., ages 7-11. Registration fee $112 or $90 with CityCard resident discount. Scholarships available.

MOBASH Skate Clinics – June 24-28

Learn how to skateboard like the pros. Clinics provide comprehensive safety and skateboarding instruction for all levels of ability. Next sessions begin July 8, July 15, and July 22. Registration fee $80 or $65 with CityCard resident discount. Scholarships available.

MPG Ranch Tours – June 26

An active adult (55+) tour to a beautiful conservation/research ranch in the Bitterroot Valley. Meets Wednesday, June 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., registration fee is $20 or $17 with CityCard resident discount. Transportation provided, departs from Currents Aquatics Center. Ranch tours are also offered on August 7 and September 25.
