Good Food Store.
Good selection, and while the prices might seem higher, the nutritional value more than makes up for it. With proper planning, I think we actually save over buying packaged meals.

Andy–I just had a conversation this morning about couponing and healthy foods. Alot of the coupons and deals out there are for packaged and processed food so it makes it a little more work to save money when we want to eat healthy. I plan on doing a blog soon about how to still be frugal but healthy, so stay tuned! We run a small, organic farm so we have the privilege of having fresh produce, eggs and meat available to us but I know some secrets on saving money even if you don’t have access like we do. And you are sooo right about proper planning…good work!

The Missoula Community Food Co-op.
A strong emphasis on local, organic, bulk, and specialty foods with a reduced overhead that allows for lower prices than the GFS. The member-run model encourages deomcracy in every facet of the store’s operation, and rewards strong community participation through education, events, and that warm feeling you get when eating well.

since I live in a small town in MN & c/n farm I rely on our local farmers market for 1/2 the year & a very successful local business that while their selection is low at times…I know it is healthier. I can buy my spices bulk there as well and support a local business. I am not totally organic but I do try to avoid processed foods when I can. I must be careful tho – my family relies on a paycheck from a major food company that produces processed foods but some of it is healthy & sales of those items are amazing this past year. sometimes I spend a bit more but I feel better inside for supporting a local business that gives back to the community & has been around for decades.
