Germanfest – Hoist a Stein on Sept 12th

Official Missoula Germanfest Beerstein made inWhether you’re German or not, you don’t want to miss Missoula’s annual Germanfest celebration on Sunday, September 12 in Caras Park from 2 – 6 p.m. Admissions is free.

Known for its exceptional German beer garden, Germanfest also boasts an array of activities for the whole family. The event is sponsored by the Missoula Cultural Council in celebration of German culture and Missoula’s official Sister City relationship with Neckargemünd, Germany. The German Department at The University of Montana also helps host the annual event.

Neckargemünd is a city founded in the 10th century located just outside of Heidelberg. The Missoula Cultural Council’s website features more information about Neckargemünd and its people.

Held downtown in Caras Park you’ll find a whole lot more than beer! You’ll get to experience a German oompah band, people dressed in liederhosen, authentic German food, and activities for the entire family.

Been awhile since you’ve done “the chicken dance” at a wedding? You don’t have to wait for a wedding invitation to do it again!  Join in the folk dancing fun led by The Bavarian Echoes who play traditional German polkas and waltzes – and yes, the ever popular chicken dance.

You can also temp your taste buds with some authentic excellent German food. The Shack Restaurant serves up traditional bratwurst, sauerkraut and German potato salad. There’s cheesecake for your sweet tooth, too.
